Getting a kiddo ready for a week of sleep away summer camp is def no easy task. There are tons of items to get ready: outfits for each day, toiletries, bedding, theme night costumes, sweet letters and care packages 📦 (the list goes on). But as a mom, you know that the experience is so enriching and rewarding that you make it all happen and stuff it expertly in a large plastic trunk from Container Store decorated with many Stickers from a large pack you purchased on Amazon to make said trunk look AMAHZING! 🔥
The last step of the packing involves placing labels on EVERYTHING to make sure that your lil guy knows what to use when… since you will not be around to help out. 😳 You also look through the check list many times… since the last year at camp you forgot goggles, a blanket and a few other things to name a few. Camp def sells those items but… they are not cheap so remembering to get them ahead of time is a HUGE cost saver.
For the different theme nights, Amazon has been a savior! From Dino 🦖 nights to 80’s, I have found it all. This 80’s kit is the cutest thing ever! There is also an old man kit for Back to the Future night that he is very excited about haha!
Some other tips are to purchase a large pack of cards to have everyone in your family write sweet notes. (My son said reading our notes was one of his favorite parts of his camp experience) I also purchased cute poly bags to house all the care packages and items I’m sending. Make sure to get the 10×13 ones to fit all the goodies! Def saves space in that trunk! ❤️
Drop off is always the hardest. He seems cool but I know I’m going to miss him for a whole week! I know he’s going to have fun but I sure wish I could see it all happen in real time. His cabin mates all seem fun but you can tell the middle school “too cool for school” is starting to set in. I know it is time for me to leave so they can start acting like kids again and be silly and goofy (which I know is coming). So I ask him to come in the hallway, tell him I love him, and give him a quick (non embarrassing hug) and tell him to have fun. Hopefully his camp money will last more than two days and he remembers to wear sunscreen 😂. See you in a week!! ❤️
